% reasons to become a tutor

There are a lot of ways that you can help someone and tutoring is one way. It is an excellent opportunity to build your communication skills, keep your knowledge of the coursework updated and form a great impression of your resume for future jobs.

So, what really is a tutor? Some might think a tutor is someone who will just answer any random questions about any subjects while their tutee are watching TV or playing xbox? Well, I’m sorry to burst your bubble, but that is not the job of a tutor.

A tutor is basically a teacher, only with a more approachable and informal appeal. He/She has an area of expertise and will help the students improve their learning by supporting and supplementing their classroom experiences in a more applicable and fun way.

So why should you be a tutor? I will give you 5 good reasons why you should be one.

  • You’re in command of your time.

The job is extremely flexible. When you become a tutor you can decide on what time and day you are available. With tutoring, you don’t have to sit behind a desk for 8 hours a day, you can be out in the community and meet people for a few hours each day, or evening.

  • You can teach outside the four walled classroom.

Well, this one’s a breather because a change of scenery can do well for you and to your tutee. You can teach where the student is more comfortable, but of course you have to make sure that the place is still conducive for learning.

  •  You are more approachable.

Since the approach is more informal and intimate, the students can actually TALK to you without having to worry about being scolded for not listening. This gives you an edge because you can respond to them in the area where the students are really struggling to understand.

  • You can help improve the student’s grade.

The thing about being a tutor is that you can actually see the gradual improvements of your tutees and no matter how slow it is or fast, it just makes your heart swell with pride, especially when they thank you for your help/advice.

  • You can earn some extra cash.

Yes. This is true. If you are tutoring, not only will you help others learn, but it can also help you earn (and that even rhymed). It’s a great way to earn some part time income or supplement your full time job. You won’t become rich tutoring, however you can make a great hourly salary for doing interesting work that actually enhances another person.

Teacher

Whether it is tutoring Math, English, a foreign language or a musical instrument, you are providing the knowledge, attention and time that a student need in order to learn difficult subject matter.

Most students have lowered self esteem because of poor grades and difficulties with learning, however, working one on one with student gives them an enormous opportunity to work at their own pace and for them to ask questions without being ridiculed. As a tutor, you are able to nurture students and help them learn difficult subject matter enhancing their knowledge, raising their confidence and helping them succeed.

So what are you waiting for?  Become a Tutor.

Help and Inspire.
